What is gray divorce?
The term Gray divorce was first used in the US in 2004. This means the end of long -standing marriage at 50 or older. It is also called ‘Middle Age Split’ or ‘Late-in-Life Divorce’. This is the age when children grow up, their career is fixed, the person is financially strong and retirement or takes.
Why have such cases increased?
A report on gray divorce was published at the Cleveland Clinic. According to the study, after 1990, people aged 65 years or older increased in cases of gray divorce. According to psychologist Chivona Childs, it has been steadily increasing since 2010. Divorce in young couples are caused by infidelity, domestic violence and money problems. But the reason for gray divorce is that women are financially strong. Earlier she was financially dependent on her husband. But now it is not so. Also, women have started giving importance to their mental health.
Live together but not together
Psychiatrist Muskan Yadav says that after a certain age, when the children grow up, leave the house for studies or work and start staying away, the couple have to spend time alone with each other. Then they feel that their association is over. They live together, but do not with each other. This is called ’empty nest syndrome’. Most of the couples live together for their children only while there is no connection between them.
