Along with treating the serious diseases of the patients, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi will now also help them get rid of the addiction of tobacco or tobacco products like bidi, cigarette etc. A special clinic has been opened in AIIMS for the people who are inviting diseases like cancer by using tobacco products, where people will be able to get rid of these bad habits forever.
AIIMS’s National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre and Pulmonary, Critical and Sleep Medicine opened a Tobacco Cessation Clinic (TCC) on Tuesday. In this clinic, people who are struggling with the addiction of tobacco, cigarettes, bidi, khaini, gutkha etc. and want to quit them will not only be counselled but they will also be given complete treatment by giving them medicines.

For a long time, the Tobacco Free AIIMS campaign was being run in AIIMS. Now, to free people from tobacco addiction not only in AIIMS but across the country, AIIMS Director Dr. M Srinivas has opened this clinic on the 5th floor in the A wing of Pulmonary Medicine OPD in the new Rajkumari Amrit Kaur OPD.
OPD will be held every Tuesday
Dr. Amarinder Singh Malhi, Assistant Professor in Cardiovascular Radiology and Endovascular Intervention Department of AIIMS, who was the director of Tobacco Free AIIMS campaign, said that OPD will be held in this clinic every Tuesday. Registration for this can be done from 8:30 am to 11 am. At present, offline registration is being done for the clinic, it will also be done online.
This is how you will get treatment
Dr. Malhi said that patients will first be given counseling in this special clinic. In this counseling session, patients will first be advised to quit tobacco, cigarettes or bidis. After this, they will also be given medication. If needed, patients can also be admitted.
Patients will be able to come from all over the country
Dr. says that till now efforts were being made to make AIIMS tobacco free by running tobacco free campaigns within AIIMS, its positive results were also seen when many people benefited from counseling but now people across the country will be able to avail this facility.
