Google doodle celebrate Balamani Amma Birthday: Google Doodle is celebrating the birth anniversary of Balamani Amma, an eminent and iconic Indian poet who has made a mark in the art and culture world of the country. Balamani Amma was born on July 19, more than a century ago.
On the 113th birthday of Malayalam litterateur Balamani Amma, today Google has prepared a special doodle, this doodle has been prepared by Kerala-based artist Devika Ramachandran. Balamani Amma is also called the ‘Grandmother of Malayalam Literature’ of Malayalam literature.
No education in childhood: Nalpat Balamani Amma was born on July 19, 1909 in Punnayurkulam, Ponnani taluk of Malabar district of British India. Even though she became a famous poet later in life, she had no formal education as a child.
He was later tutored by his maternal uncle and his collection of various books helped him to gain knowledge and become a poet. Balamani Amma later became one of the most famous poets in the world and her inspirations were Nalapat Narayan Menon and poet Vallathol Narayan Menon.
Google Doodle Pays Tribute To Balamani Amma On Her 113th Birthday
Recognition from the first poem: Balamani Amma’s first poem, Koppukai, was published in the year 1930, after which she got recognition as a talented poet from Parikshit Thampuran, the former ruler of the Kingdom of Cochin. Thampuran also honored him with the ‘Sahitya Nipun Puraskar’.
Balamani Amma wrote her poems in Malayalam, and her works were celebrated throughout South India. Some of her most famous poems are Amma (Mother), Muthassi (Grandmother), and Mazuvinte Katha (The Story of the Axe). Amma’s son Kamala Surayya, who would later become a writer. He translated a poem by his mother, “The Pain”, which contained a few lines describing a mother’s pain.
Awarded with Padma Vibhushan: Nalpat Balamani Amma was the recipient of many awards throughout her life, she came in the public eye when she was honored with the Sahitya Nipun Puraskar. He also received the Padma Bhushan, which is India’s third highest civilian honour.
Thus got the title of ‘Grandmother’: More than 20 compilations of poetry, prose and translations have been published in the name of Balamani Amma. According to Google Doodle, her poems describing her love for children and grandchildren earned her the titles of Amma (mother) and Muthassi (grandmother) of Malayalam poetry.

Death due to Alzheimer’s disease: After an accomplished and long career as a poet and writer, Balamani Amma passed away on September 29, 2004, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for five years. His last rites were performed with full state honours.
