Samastipur : Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, scientist of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, said that banana is a wonderful plant which is known as ‘Kalpavriksha’ due to the beneficial use of every part of it. According to Hindu Puranas, Kalpavriksha is a divine tree which was one of the 14 gems obtained from Samudra Manthan. It was dedicated to the gods and it fulfills the wonderful wishes of the gods. This is the reason why similar importance has been given to the banana plant, where every part of it is used in various beneficial products.
1. Banana Fruit
Banana is famous for its nutrients. It is rich in vitamin B6, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, which is beneficial for our digestion and blood health. This fruit provides relief from problems like constipation, stomach ulcers, and high blood pressure. It is also very beneficial for pregnant women, as it helps in the development of the fetus.
2. Raw banana
Raw bananas have less natural sugar and contain resistant starch, which is beneficial for diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome. It is rich in fiber and improves heart health. Its consumption also provides mental benefits.
3. Banana flower
Banana flower is helpful in controlling type 2 diabetes. The antioxidants and essential vitamins present in it make it suitable for anti-aging and boosting metabolism. It is also beneficial for reproductive health, breastfeeding mothers and protects against infections.
4. Banana stem
Banana stem is rich in fiber and helps flush out toxins. It is a natural diuretic and provides relief from kidney stones and urinary tract infections (UTI). Consuming its juice reduces acidity and heartburn.
5. Banana leaf
Banana leaves, while not directly edible, are useful for storing and serving food. The leaves contain polyphenols such as EGCG, which aid digestive health. Banana leaves are traditionally used in South India to serve food, which is beneficial from an environmental and health point of view.

Banana is truly a unique plant, considered as a ‘Kalpavriksha’. Every part of it can be used for health and other useful products. Fruit, flower, stem, and leaves – all enrich our lives in their own way. Thus, banana is not only a common fruit but a complete plant, which supplies various beneficial elements to us.
