On 12 February 2025, banks will remain closed in some states on the occasion of 648th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas. Many states have also declared a public holiday on the occasion. Where will the banks remain closed?
The RBI keeps holidays in banks according to the state, that is, the festival which is more important in that area is kept on holiday. Therefore, not all banks in India will remain closed on 12 February. The states where banks will remain closed today on the occasion of Guru Ravidas’s birth anniversary include Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. At the same time, banks in Aizawl will also be closed today due to voting for local elections. In states where banks will remain closed, digital banking services including UPI, Internet banking and mobile banking will continue normally.
Where was a public holiday declared?
Ravidas or Raidas was an Indian poet-saint of the devotional movement during the 15th to 16th centuries. His teachings emphasized caste equality, harmony and social justice. The state governments of Punjab and Haryana have declared a public holiday on Wednesday on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti. Government offices and schools will remain closed in many cities like Mohali, Chandigarh, Gurugram and Faridabad in honor of Sant Ravidas.
Apart from this, a public holiday has been declared on the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas in UP and Uttarakhand. It has been announced that all government offices, educational institutions, banks and other public establishments will remain closed on Wednesday i.e. 12 February 2025.
