The special thing is that the situation is worse in European countries as well. The scientists conducting the research analyzed the estimated global consumption of 15 major micronutrients calcium, iodine, iron, riboflavin, folate, zinc, magnesium, selenium, thiamine, niacin and vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C and vitamin E. Surprising things came to light in this.

Researchers reported that 68% of the world’s population is iodine deficient, 67% is vitamin E deficient, 66% is calcium deficient and 65% is iron deficient. Calcium intake is significantly lower in North America, Europe and Central Asia. More than half of the world’s population is also getting low amounts of riboflavin, folate and vitamin C and vitamin B6. Niacin deficiency was found in only 22% of people, while thiamine (30%) and selenium (37%) were less than required.

The special thing is that iodine, vitamin B12, iron and selenium deficiency is found to be higher in women than in men, while calcium, niacin, thiamine, zinc, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin B6 deficiency is higher in men. Deficiency of these micronutrients can cause fatigue, bone pain, hair loss and weakness. The result of this research has been published in Lancet Global Health. Experts involved in this research say that these results are worrying. Most people in all regions are facing deficiency of many essential nutrients.
