New Delhi. Do you often buy and consume antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription? If yes, then know that this can put you in trouble. Excessive use of antibiotics is turning bacteria into superbugs. That is, such bacteria on which no medicine works after some time. These superbugs, present in hospitals, drinking water and milk, are making humans victims of deadly diseases. Every year millions of people are losing their lives due to these superbugs. What is this whole theory of antibiotics abuse and its consequences, let’s know.
Recently, it has been reported in the report of Indian Council of Medical Research that a large number of people in India are antibiotic resistant, that is, antibiotics do not have any effect on them. Even life saving antibiotics are not effective. Doctor Rommel Tickoo of Max Superspeciality has expressed concern about this.
If antibiotics are used indiscriminately without medical advice, then in the next 25 years all antibiotic medicines will become ineffective. It is often seen that people take antibiotics even for normal cold-cough. Even children are given antibiotics without doctor’s advice. Whereas the truth is that people do not know whether cold or fever is caused by viral infection or bacterial infection.
If this carelessness in taking antibiotic tablets continues, then in future, bacteria causing minor diseases like fever and diarrhea will cause more havoc than Covid-19. According to the data of some health magazines, after 2050, bacteria causing minor diseases can kill 1 crore people every year, because antibiotic medicines will not have any effect on them.
There are many medicines in the list of most misused antibiotic drugs in India. Such as Azithromycin, which is given for fever, throat pain, cough in children and adults.
Amoxycillin which is given for common cold, fever, ear pain, throat pain and cough.
Amoxycillin-Clavulanic acid combination which is given to adults for fever, throat pain and cough.
Ciprofloxacin, Ofloxacin which is given for urinary infection and diarrhoea.
Cefixime, which is used for fever, throat pain and cough. Considering these side effects of antibiotics, people should avoid eating antibiotics like chips and doctors and scientists should also find alternatives to it.
