Delhiites will get a big shock, new government will prepare to increase prices

मुफ्त बिजली के साथ दिल्ली वालों को लगेगा तगड़ा झटका, दाम बढ़ाने की तैयारी में नई सरकार

After the formation of the BJP government in Delhi, the political movement over electricity has intensified. Under the election promise, it was said to provide 300 units of free electricity, but it has not been implemented so far. On the contrary, indications are being given by the government to become expensive, due to which the concern is increasing in the public.

Will electricity be expensive in Delhi?

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood said that during the tenure of the Aam Aadmi Party government, a loan of ₹ 27,000 crore was pending on electricity distribution companies through DERC (Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission). Now the BJP government is planning to recover from the public to repay it, which is possible to increase electricity bills.

Who does electricity distribution in Delhi?

Four companies have electricity supply work in Delhi:

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) – South and West Delhi

BSES Yamuna Power Limited (bypl) – Eastern and Central Delhi

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) – Northern and outer Delhi

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) – NDMC Area (Poshe areas)

Current electricity rates

Last year, in July 2024, electricity prices in Delhi were increased. According to the new tariff:

Similar rates are also applicable for TPDDL and NDMC.

When will 300 units get free electricity?

The BJP promised to provide 300 units of free electricity during the election campaign, while 200 units of free electricity were being provided during the Aam Aadmi Party government. Now the BJP government has been formed more than a month, but the promise has not been fulfilled yet.

Growing tension of public

The people of Delhi are already struggling with expensive electricity bills. In such a situation, the lack of 300 units of free electricity and the possibility of increasing electricity rates has increased people’s concern. However, the Delhi government has issued a statement saying that it is committed to provide cheap electricity to the public.

Further, it has to be seen whether the BJP government fulfills its promises or the people of Delhi will have to bear the burden of expensive electricity bills.
