Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana: Recently the government has decided to provide free health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This facility will be available to all senior citizens regardless of their income. The scheme aims to provide better health services and financial security to the elderly. Now the elderly aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their financial status, will be able to avail health services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. For this, a special card will be issued to them.
Senior citizens who are in families already covered under the scheme will get an additional cover of Rs 5 lakh. They will not have to share this cover with other family members. At the same time, other senior citizens above 70 years of age will get a cover of up to Rs 5 lakh annually on a family basis.

What diseases are covered?
Around 1,929 diseases and procedures are covered under the scheme, including medicines used during the treatment, diagnostic services, doctors’ fees, operation theatre and ICU charges, etc.
Cashless Cover
Under this scheme, every family is provided cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually. This includes medical tests, treatment, medicines, pre-hospitalization and post-hospital care.
Treatment in government and private hospitals
You can get cashless treatment at any government or private hospital across the country. Treatment for pre-existing diseases is also covered from day one.
