Man’s life is a set of many feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Some of these emotions cause its development, and some open the path of destruction. One of these devastating feelings is ego (Ego) – which has been called the greatest enemy of man in Indian philosophy. This is the mental disorder that immerses the person into conformity and gives him the confusion to consider him superior, and gradually makes him alone and hollow.
What is ego?
The simple meaning of ego is – excessive feeling of “I” and “mine”. When a person starts believing that his knowledge, his wealth, his form, his power or his position is more than others, then the ego is born within him. The ego takes the person away from reality, where he is unable to bear criticism, rejects the achievements of others, and wants to demonstrate his own superiority all the time.
How does ego produce?
Additional praise and flattery: When a person is constantly appreciated, especially without reason, he begins to consider himself special. It gradually makes him arrogant.
To find out the misinterpretation of success: Many times there should be humility with success, but some people consider it as their greatness. This success turns into ego.
Knowledge or misuse of position: Those who are in a high position in the society or those who have special knowledge, sometimes they begin to despise others.
A sense of insecurity: it seems strange to hear, but sometimes the ego actually arises from internal insecurity. The person tries to make himself superior to hide his shortcomings.
What is loss from ego?
Sources in relationships: Egoistic person degrade people around them, which spoils relationships.
The learning process stops: When someone starts to understand themselves as complete, then he does not accept anyone’s advice or criticism.
Interruption in spiritual progress: Indian philosophy states that as long as ‘I’ remains, ‘God’ cannot come.
How to control ego?
Self-assessment: Self-analysis regularly-Do I understand myself better than others? Are I not able to tolerate criticism?
Meditation and Prayer: Through meditation, the person calms his inner self. It helps in reducing ego.
Practice service: Serving others without any expectation, especially those who are socially weak, melts the ego.
Read the views of saints and great men: Humility can be learned by taking inspiration from the lives of thinkers like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Sant Kabir.
Thank God on every success: Whatever it is, it is by the grace of God. When “I” instead of “I” comes, the ego is automatically destroyed.
