Ego – This is a mental disorder that removes the person from his true nature. It not only breaks the relationship, but gradually pushes it into the blind street of selfishness, from where it becomes difficult to return. From great thinkers such as Osho to modern psychologists, everyone agrees that ego is the biggest inhibitor of human consciousness. This article throws light on the same point of how selfishness is born from the ego, and how the person starts to cross the limits of right and wrong.
What is ego and how it is made?
Ego (Ego) means excessive feeling of ‘I’. This moment is born when a person starts believing that he is superior to others. This superiority comes through knowledge, sometimes with wealth, sometimes from the post. Gradually, this feeling starts coming into a person’s conduct. He begins to despise others and this is the beginning of his social decline.
How does selfishness connect with ego?
When the feeling of ‘I’ within a person becomes excessive, his thinking is limited to his needs and desires. This is what ‘I want’ with time ‘I want’, ‘I am right’, ‘What do you mean to me’.
The seed of selfishness sprouts from here.
Egoistic person always prioritize his goodness.
He neglects the feelings and rights of others.
He also helps others for showing or profit.
The good of society, family or institution is more on its benefit.
Why does an egoistic person move towards wrong paths?
As a person’s ego and selfishness grows, he starts to consider moral values as secondary. For him, ‘right’ is what gives him benefit.
Jealousy and competition grows because he wants no one to leave him behind.
He begins to adopt lies, deception, psychological pressure and deceit so that he is ahead.
Many times this person also gets involved in crimes like corruption, illegal trade, harm to others.
This is the reason that many people in power or officials of big companies often get caught in such disputes where their ego and selfishness distracts them with morality.
Relation of ego and selfishness in the eyes of Osho
Osho says, “The ego is the mask that you wear and hide your real fear. And when fear hides, selfishness is born.” According to him, the basis of ego is fear and insecurity. The person is afraid that no one gets better than that, no one takes away his respect. Due to this fear he moves towards selfishness. Then he does not matter to the loss of others.
How can ego and selfishness be avoided?
Self -control – Ask yourself: What I am doing is only for myself or for others too?
Adopt humility – Always remember that every person is superior from some point of view.
Meditate – This is the most effective means of breaking the ego. Osho and Buddha have also described meditation as the most important.
Do service and philanthropy – When you do something for others, the feeling of ‘I’ is weak and the feeling of ‘we’ gets strength.
Live natural life – ego is nurtured by modern appearance and competition. You can avoid it by adopting simplicity.
