Under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, the accused in this case can be punished up to 3 months.

In this, an FIR can be lodged against the person making the threat by going to the police station. Under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, threatening to kill someone can lead to a jail term of up to 7 years.
