Banswara, famous worldwide for nature, temples, historical sites, forts and cultural heritage, is also known as Cherrapunji of Rajasthan. Due to the immense blessings of nature on this city, you will get to see mesmerizing views of rivers, streams, waterfalls and beautiful mountains and valleys at every step. This major district of Rajasthan is bordered by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh from the southern part. This place got its name Banswara from the bamboo trees which once used to grow here in large numbers. According to historians, the history of Banswara began around 490 BC, when King Ajatashatru of Magadha wanted to make his capital more strategically protected from the hilly area. Also present day Banswara was founded by the Bhil king Vahiya Charpota, who was also known as Raja Bansiya Bhil. And this city is also said to be named Banswara after his name. In 1530, this area was established as Banswara Rajwada, whose capital was Banswara. After independence i.e. before joining Rajasthan in 1948, it used to be a part of Dungarpur state. On the other hand, according to another legend, it is also believed that Banswara was founded by King Putraka. According to some records and government papers, Banswara was founded 510 years ago on 14 January 1515 by Raja Bansia Bhil on the day of Makar Sankranti.
Banswara district is situated in the southern part of Rajasthan at an altitude of 302 meters above sea level. The area of this district is 5037 square kilometers which has now been made a division. The area around Banswara is flat and fertile compared to other areas, due to which maize, wheat and gram are the major crops in the region. The mineral resources of Banswara are mainly found in iron ore, lead, zinc, silver, manganese, rock phosphate, limestone, marble, graphite, soapstone. Even during the scorching heat and severe drought of the scorching desert of Rajasthan, you will be amazed to see the greenery and natural beauty of Banswara. Anand Sagar Lake: Anand Sagar Lake is one of the most special artificial lakes of Rajasthan. This lake is also known as Bai Talab. This lake was built by Lanchi Bai, the queen of Maharani Jagmal Singh, and is situated in the eastern part of the district. The place is surrounded by sacred trees, known as ‘Kalpavriksha’. This place is famous for fulfilling the wishes of the travelers who come here. Abdullah Peer Dargah: Abdullah Peer is a famous Dargah of a Bohra Muslim saint, which is situated in the southern part of the city. Andeshwar Parshvanath Temple: Andeshwar Parshvanathji is a famous Jain temple situated on a small hill in Kushalgarh tehsil. There are two Digambara Jain Parshvanath temples, which are home to rare inscriptions from the 10th century. This famous temple is located at a distance of 40 kilometers from Banswara. Apart from the Jain temple, Shiva temple, Dakshinmukhi Hanuman temple and Pir Dargah are also situated on the hill. Ramkund: Ramkund is one of the most sacred places of Banswara which is situated at a distance of 3 km from Talwara. This site is also known as Fati Khan because it is located in a deep cave below the hill. In some mythological stories, there is a description of Lord Ram coming here during his exile, due to which this place has special recognition. This place attracts tourists because it is surrounded by beautiful hills and greenery.
