According to the Srimad Bhagwat Purana, Jai and Vijay were the favorite servants of Lord Vishnu and protected the entrance of Vaikuntha Dham. Once the craze, Sanandan, Sanatan and Sanat Kumar (Char Sanat Kumar Rishi) came to Vaikuntha Dham to see Lord Vishnu. But Jai and Vijay stopped him at the door and said that God is resting. Hearing this, the four Santkumar Rishi became very angry and cursed Jai-Vijay and said that “You are full of ego, so you have to be born in death and there you are not as a devotee of Vishnu, but the form of his enemy Will be born in! “
When Jai-Vijay prayed to Lord Vishnu to avoid this curse, God gave him two options that either he could remain a devotee of Lord Vishnu for seven births or he was born as an enemy of God for three births. Will take, but soon they will get liberation at the hands of God and they will return Vaikunth again. Jai and Vijay opted for three births as they soon wanted to return to Lord Vishnu.
Three demonic births of Jai and Vijay: In the first birth, Jai was Hiranyaksha in Satyuga, which was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu in Varaha avatar and Vijay Hiranyakashyapa, which was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu in Narasimha avatar. In the second birth, Jai became Ravana in Treta Yuga, which was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu in Rama avatar, while Vijay became Kumbhakarna, which was slaughtered by Rama. In the third birth, in the Dwapar Yuga, Jai Shishupala took place, which was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu in Krishna avatar, while Vijay Dantvaktra, which was slaughtered by Shri Krishna.
