What should be the width of shoulder pleats?

To wear a silk saree, first of all shoulder pleats should be made and the width of the shoulder pallu should come exactly till the shoulder. Only then a perfect and neat look is visible.

Press pallu pleats like this

The biggest problem when wearing a silk saree is pressing the pleats. If you don’t have a hair straightener, then just set the pleats little by little and stick them on your tummy and press. With this, all the pleats will be pressed evenly and will not appear crumpled.

pin in petticoat

After making pleats from the shoulders, pin the saree with the petticoat near the waist. This makes the pleats near the waist look perfect.

Where to start making waist pleats

Whenever waist pleats have to be made, there is confusion as to which part of the saree to start making pleats so that there is no extra cloth.
