There are many stories buried in the sand of Rajasthan which are not only in folklore, but also in heart beats. One such story is of Rajkumar Mahendra and Princess Mumal, whose love story is still considered the most beautiful example of true and selfless love. It is not only the story of two lovers, but the immortal story of trust, dedication, misunderstanding and ultimately the immortal story of the test of love, who shakes every person who believes in true love.
Mumal – Picture of beauty and intelligence
Mumal was a princess of Jaisalmer, whose beauty, cleverness and courage stories spread far and wide. It is said that Mumal lived in a beautiful palace with his sisters, which was called ‘Lodrava’. This place was filled with magical mysteries and challenging exams, where the princes had to test their love and courage. Mumal had vowed that she would marry the same man who would live up to his terms – which included the true sense of intelligence, courage and love.
Mahendra – Brave prince of Sindh
Mahendra, on the other hand, was a prince of Sindh who was not only proficient in war skills, but also very true and loved by heart. When Mahendra came to know about Mumal, he reached Lodrava to take his exam. After the failures of many princes, Mahendra crossed all the challenges of Mumal with his understanding and fearlessly and the true love began between the two.
Examination and misunderstanding in love
The depth of Mumal and Mahendra’s love was so much that they could not even imagine living without each other. But as every love happens in the story, luck probably had something else. One night, when Mahendra came to meet Mumal, Mumal jokingly put his sister Noor to sleep on his bed. When Mahendra saw this, he understood that Mumal had cheated him. He returned without saying anything – with a broken heart and broken expectations. When Mumal came to know about this, he tried hard to tell his lover the truth, but by then it was too late. This misunderstanding distanced two true lovers, but their hearts never fell in love with each other.
Final sacrifice of love
The most compassionate and true love of the story came when Mumal refused to live without Mahendra. He decided to commit self -immolation. When Mahendra came to know about this, he came to the runaway to Mumal, but was too late. Treating himself guilty, Mahendra also jumped into his pyre and gave up his life. In this way this love story turned into a divine union, where two souls left this world and moved towards an infinite meeting.
