Kanha Ji’s Chhathi is celebrated on the sixth day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The tradition of offering Lord Krishna his favorite things on this day has been going on for centuries. Similarly, on the day of Kanha’s Chhathi, he is ritually bathed and dressed in new yellow clothes. Although Lord Krishna loves the offering of butter and sugar candy, but on the day of Kanha’s Chhathi, a special prasad of Kadhi-rice is prepared. Ingredients for making Besan Kadhi-
-3 cups curd
-1 tsp turmeric
-1 tsp red chili powder
-Salt to taste
-1 tsp garam masala
-1/2 tsp asafoetida
– 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
-5-6 whole red chillies
To prepare the tempering of the curry-
-1 tablespoon ghee
-1 tsp red chili powder
To make pakoras-
-1 cup gram flour
-1 tsp salt
Method of making Gram Flour Kadhi-
To make Kadhi, first of all, prepare a smooth batter of all the things by adding gram flour, turmeric, red chili powder, salt and garam masala, curd in a vessel. After this, prepare the Kadhi batter by adding water to it. After this, heat oil in a pan and add asafoetida, cumin seeds and whole red chilies to it. Now add the mixture made of gram flour and curd to this tempering and boil it. Now cook this mixture on low flame. Cook the mixture till it thickens.
Now to prepare Kadhi Pakoras, prepare the batter with the pakora ingredients. Keep this batter aside for 15 minutes. Now heat half a cup of oil in a pan, whisk the pakora mixture well and fry the pakoras on medium flame. When the pakoras are fried and turn golden brown, take them out of the oil and keep them aside. After this, put the pakoras in the curry. Hot curry is ready to offer to Kanha. Now heat ghee in a pan, add red chili powder to it and put it in the pan.
