Balarama, also known as Baldev and Halabdhar, did not participate in the war of Mahabharata, while this war was a war in which almost all the warriors of this world were participating. This war was not a normal war but a crusade, in which all the people of the world had to choose one aspect and participate in the war. But during this war, while Shri Krishna decided to become the charioteer of Arjun instead of fighting the war, his elder brother Balaram decided to remain neutral in the war of Mahabharata. The main reason for this was that he had similar feelings towards both sides.
Balaram’s nature was peaceful and he was against unnecessary war and violence. He did not participate in the war of Mahabharata and followed this principle and supported non -violence. He had received military education but was not much interested in the war. His inclination was more towards agriculture, farming and social service. According to the Mahabharata, Balarama did not take the side of the war in the meeting and said that Yudhishthira did not know how to gamble, while Duryodhana and Shakuni were skilled in gambling. But still Yudhishthira kept gambling stubbornly and kept losing. An even bigger mistake was that he did not think even once before putting anything at stake. So this war is the result of their own stupidity and persistence.
Before the war of Mahabharata, Balarama decided to go on pilgrimage. In view of the magnitude and destruction of war, he preferred pilgrimage. Before leaving, he told Shri Krishna that “Bhimsen and Duryodhana, both these heroes are my disciples and mace is skilled in war. So I have the same affection on both of them. During the war, I am at the holy places on the banks of the Saraswati river at the time of war. I will go and enjoy the holy water, because I cannot see the destruction of the Kuru dynasty. “
Balarama had special affection for Duryodhana, he was Duryodhana’s guru and friend, while he also taught Bhima’s war skills. For this reason, Balaram did not consider it appropriate to participate in the war, so that no side is harmed. When Bhima defeated Duryodhana at the end of the Kurukshetra war, Balaram was angry and said, ‘Shri Krishna! King Duryodhana was the same as me. There was no one to match him in mace war. Here Duryodhana is not only dropped by injustice, but I have also been insulted. Saying this, the mighty Balaramji picked up his solution and ran towards him to kill Bhimsen, but Shri Krishna saved Bhima. But Balarama cursed Bhima for killing Duryodhana with deceit that he would be known as a fraudulent warrior.
