According to the Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva produced a period from his mouth to kill a demon named Tripurasura. This flame was so fierce and powerful that it killed Tripurasura. According to the Shiva Purana, the three Asuras made three imperfect Nagar (Tripura) with their power and deceit. These demons were engaged in the destruction of religion and humanity. The gods and sages prayed to Lord Shiva to end Tripurasura. Shiva produced a fierce flame with his third eye, which destroyed Tripura. According to another legend, when Cupid tried to dissolve the penance of Shiva, Shiva’s anger revealed a terrible flame from his mouth which consumed Kamdev.
