Mobile addiction affects children
Nowadays every house has become a common problem -spending more time of children on mobile, TV or tablet. But have you thought how much effect does it affect the brain and behavior of children? According to Dr. Pooja Kapoor, director and co-founder of Continua Kids, first of all, talk about young children, especially children under three years of age. At this age, his brain is developing very fast. This is the time when they learn to speak, understand and connect socially. If the screen is shown to them at this time, then their development may stop. The screen is a level medium, in which the child just sees, cannot speak. This affects his ability, social understanding and confidence. In many cases, children have been seen to “autism -like symptoms” or “development delay”.
At the same time, there is a loss of screen time even in older children. Watching more screen reduces attention (called Attention Deficit disorder or Add). In addition, problems like obesity, high blood pressure, sleep problem and distance from society also increase. In such a situation, the doctor is telling how to get rid of your child’s habits?
Screen limit should be fixed according to age
Do not show the screen to children under the age of year at all. If you have to show, then only for a limited time to talk to grandparents or relatives through video calls. Do not give screens more than 1 hour to children from 2 to 5 years old. That too when you sit with them and talk to them in between. Keep a 2 -hour screen time limit for children from 5 to 10 years old. Content should also be that according to their age and under your supervision.
How to get these children’s habits released?
Become an example yourself: If you will stay in mobile or TV yourself, then what will the children learn from you? So first limit your screen time.
Keep children busy: To keep children busy, put them in small tasks. For example, installing a dinner table, filling a bottle of water, dusting etc. This will make them responsible and will pay less attention to the screen.
Promote the conversation: Keep the TV or mobile completely off at the time of dinner. At that time, the whole family should sit together and talk throughout the day. It develops social skills and hearing habit in children.
Make a fixed rule of screen time: Children should know when and how long the screen can be seen. If you are ever busy, instead of giving a screen to children, include them in an activity – such as painting, story listening, playing etc.
Remember, children’s habits are made from us. If we walk with restraint and wisely, then the children will automatically learn to distance away from the screen.
