New Delhi. With the onset of monsoon rains, the problem of sore throat, mucus formation or fever increases with you or anyone in the family. Many do not even understand why this is happening. Actually, the reason is not the weather but your food. According to Ayurveda, as the seasons change, we should also change the way we eat. If you do not do this, the effect of that food changes and instead of giving benefit, it starts doing harm.
Digestive fire of stomach decreases in monsoon
Ayurveda is the oldest and best natural medical science in the world. Where on one hand it is told in allopathy that which medicine to take after getting sick. On the other hand, in Ayurveda, knowledge is given about which method or medicine to use in order not to get sick. Accordingly, Ayurveda tells us how to keep the body fit and treat it. Ayurveda says that the digestive fire of the stomach weakens during monsoons. In such a situation, by changing our food habits, we should eat such things, which give warmth to the body and correct our digestion.
Avoid eating sour and smooth in the rain
This is the reason why we should not consume sour things in monsoon. We should stay away from curd, pickle or other sour things. Similarly, smooth things are also prohibited. All these things create mucus during monsoon, which leads to cough. Also, all these things are not digested properly. Due to these things during the rainy season, we are prone to problems like sore throat, stomach upset and fever. Hence Ayurveda tells us to avoid them during monsoon.
Use more hot spices
It is said in Ayurveda that ginger, dry ginger, asafoetida, black pepper and wheat should be consumed to keep the body warm during rainy days. In monsoon, salty and sweet things should be eaten to remove all the defects of the body. This is the reason why sweet pooris made of ghee and wheat flour are eaten a lot in these days. Jaggery, ghee, and wheat are considered to be hot, which helps to keep the internal parts of the body warm.
