According to the astrologer, this year the festival of Chhoti Diwali will be celebrated on 30 October 2024. Narak Chaturdashi will start on October 30 at 01:16 pm. It will end the next day on October 31 at 03:53 pm. Since this festival is celebrated in the evening, it would be auspicious to light the lamp of Yama on 30th October only. Yama’s lamp should be lit during Pradosh Kaal after sunset on Narak Chaturdashi.
Auspicious time for Chhoti Diwali 2024 puja
According to Rakesh Chaturvedi, Chhoti Diwali is called Yam Chaturdashi. On this day, after the puja, there is a tradition of lighting the lamp of Yama. In such a situation, the auspicious time of puja on Chhoti Diwali will be from 6:49 pm to 7:43 pm. This time is very auspicious. Because, even in astrology, the time to light the Yama lamp is only 40 minutes after sunset.
How should Yama’s lamp be?
To light the lamp of Yama, you can take a four-sided lamp or any normal lamp. Install 4 lights in it in such a way that they point in all four directions. After this fill the lamp with mustard oil. Then after lighting this lamp, rotate it throughout the house and keep it in the south direction at the main entrance of the house. However, as per customs, you can place it near a drain or anywhere else.
Important rules for lighting Yama’s lamp
According to religious belief, Yama’s lamp should be lit by keeping it outside the door or house. Because, Yama is considered a symbol of negativity. In such a situation, instead of inviting them to the house, they are given food from outside and sent away. South direction is considered best for keeping this lamp. Apart from this, keep in mind that the Yam Diya should not be kept directly on the ground. For this, if you want, you can keep rice or any grain below.
Why is Yama’s lamp lit?
Yama’s lamp is lit the night before Diwali. This lamp is lit for Yamraj, the god of death. It is believed that by lighting the lamp of Yama on the day of Narak Chaturdashi, the fear of untimely death in the family is eliminated. Also, it is prayed that Yamdev closes the gates of hell and keeps us safe. People who do this are blessed by Yama.
Significance of Chhoti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi
According to religious belief, on the day of Chhoti Diwali, Lord Shri Krishna had killed the demon Narakasura. Therefore it is also called Narak Chaturdashi. Therefore on this day people celebrate the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon. They clean the houses and decorate them with flowers or lights. On this day, lamps are lit to drive away the darkness of evil and welcome positivity.
