By default you get the option of ‘Travel Insurance’ while booking tickets on IRCTC website – Self Insurance option will be selected. Under this, if any accident happens to you during the journey, you are given the benefit of travel insurance. This insurance covers any type of loss in a railway accident.
You can make an insurance claim within 4 months of the train accident. For this, you can file an insurance claim by visiting the office of the company related to the insurance policy given by IRCTC.
After booking a ticket from IRCTC, a message related to the insurance policy is sent to your registered number or message, in which you have to fill the nominee details like your family member’s name, mobile number, date of birth, email and relationship. The link given is that while taking insurance, you will have to fill the details of the nominee so that there is no problem in making insurance claim after any accident.
If a passenger dies or becomes permanently disabled in a train accident, an insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh is given.
Compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh is given for partial disability.
In case of serious injury, an assistance of Rs 2 lakh is given.
Up to Rs 10,000 is paid for minor injuries.
These people will not get the benefit of travel insurance
Let us tell you that the benefit of this travel insurance given by IRCTC is given only to Indian citizens. Foreign citizens cannot avail benefits under this. At the same time, those who buy tickets from the counter and travel in general compartment do not get this benefit.
