Story of Maa Kalratri
At one time, the terror of demons like Shumbha-Nishumbh, Chand-Mund and Raktabij had spread to the three worlds. His storm had increased so much that the condition of the gods had become pathetic. Seeing this, all the gods went to Lord Shiva and took refuge and started praying for defense. Lord Shiva asked Goddess Parvati to kill the demons and protect his devotees. Lord Shiva obeyed him and Goddess Parvati took the form of Durga. Then he killed Shumbha and Nishumbh. After this, Goddess Durga also killed the demons named Chand and Mund, which named her ‘Maa Chandi’.
After this, when Maa Durga killed a demon called Raktabij, blood currents started flowing from her body. The bizarre thing was that as soon as the blood fell on the ground, millions of blood seeds started appearing. Seeing this, Goddess Durga produced Kalratri from her fast. Maa Kalratri took the blood flowing from her body to her face before falling on the ground. In this way, Goddess Durga cut the throat of all the bloodbeas and killed her.
