The history of our national flag, the tricolor, is very glorious. How many heroes sacrificed their lives for this tricolor. In such a situation, we are going to tell you the story of the existence of the triangle. The national flag has changed its shape several times since 1906. The country is completing 76 years of independence on 15 August 2023. Last year, on completion of 75 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the people from village to city to hoist the tricolor under the Tricolor campaign in every house across the country. This year India is going to celebrate Independence Day under the theme ‘Nation First, Always First’.
First National Flag-1906
The first national flag was hoisted on 7 August 1906 at Parsi Bagan Chowk (Green Park), Calcutta. Which is now called Kolkata. This flag was made of red, yellow and green horizontal stripes. It was green at the top, yellow in the middle and red at the bottom. Along with this, lotus flowers and moon and sun were also made in it.
Second National Flag-1907
The first unofficial flag of India did not last long and the very next year India got a new national flag. The second national flag was hoisted in Paris in 1907 by Madame Cama and some revolutionaries who were exiled with her. Although many people say that this incident happened in 1905. This was also similar to the first flag. The moon and stars were also present in this national flag. Also it included three colors saffron, green and yellow. Later it was also unveiled during a conference in Berlin.
Third National Flag-1917
The third flag arrived in 1917. Dr. It was hoisted by Annie Besant and Lokmanya Tilak during the Home Rule Movement. The flag had five red and four green horizontal stripes one after the other and seven stars on it in the direction of the sage. At the same time, on the left upper edge (towards the pillar) was the Union Jack. There was also a white crescent and star in one corner.
Fourth National Flag-1921
The fourth tricolor was hoisted during the session of the All India Congress Committee. A young man from Andhra Pradesh made a flag and gave it to Gandhiji. This event was organized in 1921 at Bezwada (now Vijayawada). It was made of two colors (red and green). This flag represents two major communities i.e. Hindu and Muslim.
Fifth National Flag-1931
The fourth national flag of India was created in 1921 and remained in existence for 10 years. In 1931, India once again got a new national flag. The charkha played an important role in the fifth national flag as well as the fourth national flag. This time there has been a change in colors. There was a confluence of saffron, white and green colors with the charkha. The flag was formally adopted by the Indian National Congress (INC).

It took 5 years to make the flag
The present tricolor was designed by Pingali Vekenya of Andhra Pradesh. Mahatma Gandhi had handed over this responsibility to Pingali Venkayya, who had served in the army. Pingali Venkayya, serving in the British Indian Army, met Gandhiji in South Africa. During this, Venkaiah talked about having a separate national flag which Gandhiji liked very much. It took five years to make this flag.
