Shardiya Navratri has started. This nine-day long festival is dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga. During this time, devotees offer special worship to Goddess Mata Rani to please her. Some people also keep a fast for nine days during this period. Actually, fasting during the nine days of Navratri and consuming only satvik food is beneficial for health in many ways. This detoxifies the body and is also very beneficial in terms of fitness. But in case of any kind of health issue, some caution is needed while observing the fast. Especially if someone has diabetes then fasting can be a bit difficult for him. However, keeping some things in mind, diabetic patients can also keep fast. So let us know what things a diabetic patient should take care of during fasting.

Keep the fast only after consulting the doctor

If you are a diabetic patient and want to fast for nine days of Navratri, then it is important for you to consult your doctor first. Consider fasting for 9 days of Navratri only if your doctor advises you to keep fast.

Consume low carbohydrate foods during fasting

Carbohydrates work to increase blood sugar. During Navratri fast, you should take special care that whatever you are including in your fruit diet should have minimum amount of carbohydrates. Instead of including potato products and fried foods in the fast, consume fruits and fiber-rich boiled vegetables. You can add buckwheat flour, curd and samak rice to your diet.

keep the body hydrated

It is very important to keep the body hydrated during fasting. Due to dehydration in the body, problems like weakness and dizziness may occur. To keep the body hydrated during the fast, keep consuming buttermilk, lemon water, coconut water etc. from time to time. This will not make you weak and the blood sugar level will also be maintained.

Avoid fried foods

Most of the fruits prepared during fasting are prepared by frying them in ghee, but if you are a diabetic patient then avoid excessive consumption of fried things. Instead of oily snacks, you can eat things made through processes like baking, steaming and grilling. Apart from this, keep eating fiber rich fruits every now and then.

Keep checking blood sugar level from time to time

If you are a diabetic patient and are fasting for 9 days during Navratri, then it is very important for you to take care of your blood sugar level. For this, you should keep checking your blood sugar level at least 3 to 4 times a day and contact the doctor if there is even a slight imbalance.
