Terminal 2 (T2) of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi has been closed for renewal from midnight of 14 April 2025. Since 15 April 2025, all flights have now shifted to Terminal 1 (T1). The move is expected to cause some inconvenience to passengers, although officials believe Terminal 1 is ready to handle this additional load.
The T1 was recently expanded. The annual capacity of which has now reached 40 million passengers, which is already doubled. This expansion was done to handle additional loads during the closure of T2, which is expected to reduce operational disruption.
The renewal project will last for 4-6 months and plans to further increase modern technology such as autonomous docking, new roofs, natural lighting and better connectivity. Its purpose is to make the 40 -year -old terminal to correspond to modern requirements. Vidhi Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited), has said that this renewal is necessary to meet the increasing demand.
Airline is informing passengers
Airlines like Indigo and Akasa have informed passengers that their flights will now operate from T1. Indigo recommends checking PNR on the website or mobile app, while Akasa asks to check the flight position. Begase transfer for connecting passengers between dial T3 and T1 is starting testing.
Now everyone’s eyes are set at Jewar Airport
Let us tell you that Noida International Airport, Jewelry, will start operations by the end of April 2025. The first phase will have a capacity of 1.2 crore passengers, which will increase to 7 crores in the coming years. This will help in reducing congestion on IGI, as Indira Gandhi Airport currently handles 11 million passengers every year.
After the renovation of T-2 and reopening of Jewar Airport, air traffic capacity in Delhi-NCR region will increase. This step will not only reduce the crowd on IGI, but will also increase regional connectivity. DIAL and concerned officials believe that these development projects will be beneficial for passengers in the long run, especially in the context of domestic and international contact.
