what is alopecia
Mayoclinic According to Dr., alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss in the form of patches on any part of the body. But it affects the scalp the most. There are many types of it. The first is alopecia areata totalis, in which all the hair on your scalp falls. The second is alopecia areata universalis, in which the hair on your scalp and the whole body falls. The third is diffuse alopecia areata, in which the hair becomes thin instead of falling. While the fourth is ophthalmia alopecia areata, in which the hair falls in the form of a band on the lower back side of the scalp.

What are the symptoms-
When this disease occurs, the hair on the head, face, eyebrows, eyelashes and other parts of the body starts falling in patches. Due to this, pits or holes start appearing on the nails which are completely different from normal nails. There may be an itching sensation in these patch areas, their color can be red, purple, brown or gray, the hair roots i.e. follicles on the patches appear large and open which is called follicular ostia. etc.

Why does this happen-
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks your own body. Your immune system attacks your hair follicles because it thinks they are foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi, causing infection, disease or other problems. When this happens, hair begins to fall out (in coin-sized clumps).

What to keep in mind-
Protect your skin from the sun as much as possible.
As far as possible, keep yourself away from stress.
Instead of chemical hair products, use mild shampoo or product.
Take vitamin D supplements regularly.

Is its treatment possible?
According to Mayo Clinic, alopecia areata is not completely curable. Efforts are made to stop hair loss with medicines and other treatments. But this disease cannot be completely cured.
