Haldwani: Figs are found in abundance in Uttarakhand. It is a fruit that is full of medicinal properties. Eating figs has many health benefits. Here in the mountains, people eat it by plucking it from the tree. After drying, this fruit becomes more beneficial. It is imported to India from abroad. If you consume figs daily, many health related problems will go away. Figs are effective in reducing weight and curing other problems including irritability.
Figs contain plenty of antioxidants which reduce triglycerides. This also keeps cholesterol under control. The potassium present in figs also controls blood pressure. Along with this, calcium deficiency can also be overcome by eating figs.
Better for the digestive system
Senior Ayurveda doctor Dr. Vinay Khullar said that figs contain a lot of nutrients. It also contains a lot of fiber. Due to which there is no problem like gas and constipation in the stomach and the food is digested well. Eating it also clears the stomach easily.
Makes bones stronger
Dr. Khullar said that figs contain calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which help in keeping the bones strong. Thus, regular consumption of figs can provide many health benefits to our body. Figs are also called immunity boosters. It contains properties of vitamins, potassium, minerals and calcium which can help in strengthening immunity.
Beneficial in asthma
Dr. Khullar said that figs are also beneficial for asthma patients. Eating figs provides moisture to the mucus membranes inside the body and clears the phlegm. Asthma patients can eat it with milk. This will give them a lot of relief.
Helpful in weight loss
You can also include figs in your diet to reduce obesity. Figs are low calorie food, which helps in reducing weight.
How many figs to eat a day
Dr. Khullar said that if you talk about raw fruits, you can eat 3-4 figs in a day. On the other hand, if we talk about dried figs, you can eat 2 to 3 figs. For figs to benefit your health, soak them overnight and eat them in the morning.
