Teeth Whitening Oil Pulling: In recent times, the trend of oil pulling has increased to brighten teeth. Oil pulling means taking oil in the mouth and gargling it. However, it has been used in India for centuries. You must have seen many times elders mixing mustard oil and salt and rubbing it on their teeth. But just imagine, how good it would be if you gargle with oil and immediately your teeth start shining like pearls. If we believe science, then there is truth in this. Especially oil pulling can also eliminate stubborn bacteria or microorganisms hidden in the mouth.
How oil brightens teeth
According to TOI’s report, first of all, oil pulling removes innumerable harmful bacteria from the mouth. When you take oil in your mouth, the lipid layer of the bacteria sticks to it and comes out of the cavity. Similarly, other microorganisms also stick to the oil and come out of the mouth and when you spit out the saliva with this oil, all these microorganisms come out of the mouth. Streptococcus bacteria hidden in the teeth is the most dangerous because it fills the teeth with dirt and this is what causes stains on the teeth. This discolors the teeth. Regular use of oil pulling for a few days can remove this dirt from the teeth. According to the report, if someone cleans it with coconut oil or gargles with coconut oil for two weeks continuously, then the dirt on the teeth can disappear and this can make the teeth shine.
Which oil to rinse with
According to research, oil pulling can reduce plaque and gingivitis in teeth. According to the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, gargling with sesame oil has the same effect as the drug chlorhexadine. However, some experts believe that coconut oil contains lauric acid, which is a type of fatty acid. Fatty acid is antimicrobial which eliminates harmful bacteria from the teeth. Apart from coconut oil, gargling with sesame oil and sunflower oil can also prove to be beneficial.
