Often people start complaining of fatigue after traveling. But a recent study has claimed that travel can prove to be very effective in dealing with anxiety, depression. According to a study on psychopaths published in 2021, variation in daily activities is related to higher health.
The researchers pointed out that staying active during the global pandemic has been challenging, especially when many people are afraid to go out. Some people prefer to exercise at home, but in the real world, unplanned outings are important health considerations that we sometimes overlook.
Researchers from the University Psychiatric Clinic in Basel, Switzerland, revealed that the more different places people visit, the better they feel about their emotional and psychological well-being. However, their mental health issues may persist.
The study looked at 106 patients with mental health concerns such as affective disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder before the pandemic struck. Some of these were hospitalised, while others were outpatients, who stayed at home. But he needed regular therapy.
These patients took a spare phone with them for a week to track their travel using GPS. They also filled out questionnaires about their personal happiness, psychological resilience, and mental health problems.
When the researchers compared the findings of these surveys to GPS maps, they found that timing themselves while traveling was associated with a stronger emotion, however, the symptoms of mental health disorders remained roughly the same. Other signs of mental illness, the researchers said, do not have the same effect on the patient’s daily activities.
