Dr. Rajnikant Shastri, Senior Consultant, Cardiology Department, MASSH Hospital, New Delhi, told that when the arteries of the heart get blocked and adequate blood supply is not possible, then this condition is called heart attack. Talking about cardiac arrest, when a person’s heart stops pumping blood and the heart goes into a stand still position, then that condition is called cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest occurs due to artery blockage or fatal arrhythmia. Heart attack can be minor or mild, but cardiac arrest is always severe. In the condition of cardiac arrest, people fall while walking and most of the people die due to this.
Doctor Shastri told that there are 3 main arteries of the heart, in case of blockage, the blood supply gets disrupted and the condition of heart attack arises. Cardiac arrest occurs suddenly and the heart stops working completely. Both these heart conditions are fatal and their cases are increasing rapidly at present. People are losing their lives due to cardiac arrest while walking, dancing or singing. The biggest reason for both is wrong lifestyle, unhealthy food and lack of physical activity. Stress is also one of the biggest causes of heart disease. Chronic diseases can also cause heart attack and cardiac arrest. To avoid heart disease, it is important to control chronic diseases.

Dr. Vivek Tandon, Additional Director, Cardiology Department, Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida, told that in today’s time, many things including unhealthy lifestyle, wrong eating habits, smoking, alcohol consumption are creating danger to the heart. A large number of people are becoming victims of diabetes, high blood pressure and other diseases, due to which the risk of heart disease is increasing. Many people are not able to detect diseases like BP, sugar and even if detected, they stop the medicine after taking treatment for a few days. Heart health is deteriorating due to all these things.

Doctor Tandon said that there are many reasons for the increase in heart attacks among the youth. Factors like excessive stress, lack of physical activity, consumption of junk foods, obesity, BP, sugar are becoming the causes of heart attack and cardiac arrest. Family history can also be the cause of these diseases. To avoid heart diseases, people should improve their lifestyle, take a healthy diet and do regular exercise. People who are at high risk of heart disease should get a full health checkup done once a year after the age of 30. Even if you are healthy, it is important to get checked from time to time.
