The land of Rajasthan is not only known for the stories of valor and sacrifice, but also a symbol of the sacred feelings of love stories. One such love is – Mumal and Mahendra, which was as beautiful as it was, the end is as sad and heartbreaking. The love story of Mumal -Mahendra holds a special place in the folk songs and stories of Rajasthan. It is not just the story of two lovers, but also a testimony to the devastating impact of society, feelings and a momentary joke. This saga explains how an indiscriminate joke by someone can separate two true hearts forever.
Queen of Desert – Mumal
Mumal was the princess of Lodharwa (or some stories in some stories). His beauty, intelligence and mysterious personality were discussed far and wide. Kings, princes, scholars and warriors were hypnotized by her beauty, but Mumal was not a normal girl. She used to test love, to examine her intellect and heart. A mysterious game was created in her palace, in which the man who reached her would win her heart. Many princes came, but everyone failed… except one – Mahendra.
Prince of Sindh – Mahendra
Mahendra was the prince of Sindh (present -day Pakistan region). He was not only heroic and intelligent, but he also had true love in his mind. Hearing about Mumal, he too came to Lodharwa to see her and cross her exam. And the same – Mahendra crossed the difficult game made by Mumal and eventually both of them became lovers. After this, both of them started meeting. Every night Mahendra crosses the desert and came to meet Mumal. His love deepened. Mumal was also completely completely Mahendra.
A joke, which became the reason for waste
But then came the day that changed everything. According to the story, one night Mahendra could not reach Mumal. He wandered in the desert and stayed tired and stayed at one place. The next morning when he reached the palace, what he saw, he ripped his heart. The Mumal made a joke with himself and his maid in his palace. He created a scene with a sari, as if a man slept with Mumal. Mumal had done all this with his maid for laughter, but what Mahendra saw, he broke his soul. He felt that Mumal was no longer loyal to her. Without saying anything, he returned-with a broken heart.
Waiting for girlfriend and self -immolation
Mumal did not know what her lover saw, and why he suddenly stopped coming. She kept waiting, continued to walk day and night. When her patience responded, she reached Sindh herself, meeting Mahendra. But he went there and went to know that Mahendra has now distanced him away. When she knew the reason, she cried, said – “That was a joke, only one game, my heart is still yours.” Mahendra’s heart was broken, but knowing the truth of Mumal, he melted again. But by then it was late. It is said, Mumal set himself on fire – to show that his love was pure, and he never committed any betrayal. Seeing him burning, Mahendra ran and he also jumped into the same fire, so that he could be united even in death.
This saga became immortal in folk songs
Even today, Mumal and Mahendra’s love story are sung in the folk songs of Rajasthan and Sindh. This love story teaches us how important faith and dialogue in love is. A joke, a momentary confusion, and incomplete information – how can change two lives completely.
The story of Mumal and Mahendra is not just a romantic saga, but a warning. This shows how lack of trust in relationships and lack of communication turns love into a tragedy. Sometimes what we feel laughter descended as tears in someone else’s life. This is the reason that the value and transparency of emotions is very important in every relationship.
