Dr. Sonia Rawat, Director of Preventive Health Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, told AnyTV that consuming too much junk food is harmful because these foods contain high amounts of sugar, sodium and fats. These foods have very little vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, due to which consuming them may fill the stomach, but there may be a deficiency of essential nutrients. By eating junk food daily, micro nutrients are not absorbed properly in the body and gradually there is a deficiency of nutrients. This can cause serious problems.
According to health experts, nutritional deficiency in the body occurs when the body does not get enough nutrients from food or the nutrients of the food are not absorbed properly in the body. Junk food lacks essential vitamins, minerals and fiber, which also affects our digestive system badly. Eating junk foods regularly can damage the digestive system and cause weakness in the bones. Lack of nutrients in the body can cause many problems including skin problems, anemia, dementia.
The doctor said that processed and packaged food contains phytates, oxalates and lectins, which can hinder the absorption of minerals like zinc, iron and calcium. Unhealthy fats found in junk foods can hinder the absorption of soluble vitamins A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin K and this can lead to micronutrient deficiency in the body. To keep the body healthy, one should reduce the consumption of junk food and consume a balanced diet. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat protein-rich foods should be consumed in abundance.
