According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Sawan is considered to be the best for worshiping Lord Shiva. It is believed that in this month, Lord Shiva himself resides on the earth and accepts the worship and prayers done by the devotees soon. This is the reason that the Monday fast of Sawan holds special significance. This year, the month of Shravan in 2025 starts from July 11 and it will conclude on 9 August. The first Monday of Sawan will be on 14 July 2025. On this auspicious occasion, Shiva devotees observe fast with full devotion and perform special worship. First Monday of Sawan: Sawan First Monday Puja Vidhi
Get up in Brahma Muhurta (around 4:00 am) and take a bath and wear pure clothes.
Pure the place of worship with Ganga water.
Make a altar in the northeast angle (north-east direction) and install the idol or Shivling of Lord Shiva.
Anoint Shivalinga with Ganga water and panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar).
Offer belpatra, white flowers, white sandalwood, dhatura and cannabis. All these are very dear to Lord Shiva.
While worshiping, chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ or chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra 108 times.
Devotees who keep the fast should listen or recite the Monday fast story.
Finally, apologize and perform Aarti for the mistake in worship from Shiva.
Note: Fasters eat only satvik food on this day. Avoid garlic, onion and tamasic things. Also do not treat anyone bitterly.
