Presvu Eye Drops News: Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has temporarily suspended the approval of Antode Pharmaceuticals’ new eye drop PresVu. DCGI has banned the manufacture and sale of this drop till further orders. Regarding this drop, the company had claimed that it can reduce the need for glasses for presbyopia patients. By applying this drop, people can read without glasses. Earlier DCGI had given approval to make this drop, but after the company’s claims, the authority had issued a notice and sought a reply.
Moneycontrol’s Report According to DCGI in its new order, it has been said that Entod Pharmaceuticals did not take approval for claims such as reducing the need for glasses and improving near vision for this eye drop. DCGI has found Entod Pharma guilty of violating the permission to make ophthalmic solutions under the New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules 2019. The authority is also not satisfied with the company’s response to the notice. However, Entod Pharma CEO Nikhil Masurkar has said that he will challenge this suspension in court.
In August, DCGI gave approval to Entod Pharma to manufacture and sell this eye drop for presbyopia. After this, the Central Licensing Authority issued a notice to the company on September 5 regarding the company’s claims. Entod claimed that this eye drop has been designed to reduce the need for glasses for reading. DCGI has refused to give any approval for this claim. The order states that in view of all the media reports, the company’s claims are likely to mislead the general public, for which approval was not given.
DCGI has also questioned Entod’s claim that eye drops provide a non-invasive option to improve near vision. The authority has said that approval was not given for any such claim of the company. Actually, the company had said about Presview drops that by applying this drop, presbyopia patients will find it easier to read without glasses. However, experts had also raised questions about this. According to eye doctors, no drop in the world can remove eye glasses permanently.
