Opposition parties have strongly protested against the amendment of the voter list regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. On Tuesday, several MPs of India alliance in the Parliament House complex demonstrated strongly against this action of the Election Commission. Many MPs including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wearing white T-shirts, raised their voice seriously on the issue, giving the message of ‘124 Not Out’. Opposition parties allege that the Election Commission is under the influence of the BJP and is making such a reshuffle in the voter list, which can deprive millions of voters of their franchise. Through this demonstration, they are not only demanding justice, but also calling for the security of the democratic process of Bihar.
Many MPs including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien, DMK’s TR Balu and NCP’s Supriya Sule participated in the protests. On his banners “Our vote. Our right. Our fight was written on another banner taken by the protesting MPs, Sir – Silent invisible rigging.
The opposition is alleging that the purpose of this Election Commission exercise is to deprive voters of franchise before the Bihar assembly elections to be held later this year. They are demanding discussion on this issue in both houses.
Why did MPs wear 124 not out T-shirts
MPs from India Block wore a white T-shirt named Minta Devi, according to her, 124 years old and as per the voter list, for the first time in Bihar.
Congress MP Manikam Tagore told reporters that Devi’s name is first recorded as a voter in Bihar’s voter list and accused the Election Commission of India of being a department of BJP.
Tagore participated in the protest and said, “We want to discuss such issues.” How has the Election Commission become a BJP party. The voter list is filled with such fraud. However, the Election Commission did not respond to the allegation.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also mentioned the name of Minti Devi and claimed that there are many such cases in the Election Commission voter list from Bihar. He said, there are countless such cases. The picture is still left.
