Odisha News Desk!!! Cyclonic storm Dana, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, has hit the coast in Puri, Odisha on the scheduled date. The storm arrived at around 12 o’clock last night and reached the coast by around 2 am. The worst impact of the storm is being seen in Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamra in Bhadrak district, because the storm has hit the coastline between these two areas.

When the sea waves hit the coast between Bharkanika National Park and Dhamra, gale force winds of 100 to 120 km per hour were generated. There was heavy rain, due to which trees were uprooted and fell on the roads. The roofs of houses and tents were broken. Regional Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty has issued an alert and told the people that heavy rain will continue throughout the day in Odisha today. People have been asked to remain alert and call helpline numbers.
Many areas were emptied and gardeners suffered losses
Giving an update, Odisha Fire Service officer Deepak Kumar said that due to the stormy winds in Dhamara, many trees have been uprooted, due to which the road has been blocked. First of all we will clean the national highway and other roads. Then we will move towards residential areas. Our 2 teams are working in Dhamra. We have no information about any serious damage yet. Many areas of about 14 districts have been completely evacuated.

More than 10 lakh people have migrated. They have been shifted to more than 6000 relief camps. Coastal cities received 20 to 30 cm rainfall. The entire Puri city had already been evacuated. All the temporary tents installed in the Jagannath temple premises were removed. Tourists and devotees were sent to their homes. Sandbags are placed on roofs to prevent asbestos from blowing away. Konark temple has been closed for 2 days. Hotel booking has been cancelled.
6 lakh people shifted from 14 districts of Odisha
An IMD official said that the cyclone has become active very close to the coast, hence its duration is very short. The cyclone is likely to weaken by night and then it will turn towards Dhenkanal and Angul districts instead of Keonjhar. Hours before Dana reached the east coast, the state government had shifted nearly a million people to more than 6,000 shelters. At the same time, the West Bengal government has evacuated more than 5 lakh people from the storm affected areas. Of these, 83,537 people have been shifted to relief camps. People across the state have been advised to remain alert.
