Guwahati, 27 April (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that the police have arrested at least 19 people in Assam for the alleged ‘pro -Pakistan’ stance on social media and other platforms.
Sarma said that till Sunday, 19 people have been imprisoned to give a statement in support of Pakistan while living on Indian land.
Calling him a “traitor”, he said, “A total of 19 nationals have been put behind bars.”
Recently, there have been arrests in Barpeta and Cachar districts.
The Chief Minister said Zarif Ali was arrested from Barpeta, while Imran Hussain and Komar Uddin were detained from Cachar district.
The most prominent among the 19 arrested is AIUDF Party MLA Aminul Islam. He was the first person to be arrested for “Pakistan’s support” in the state.
AIUDF MLA Islam from Assam’s Dhing assembly constituency was arrested on Thursday on charges of treason after his inflammatory statement about the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir, in which more than 20 people lost their lives.
In a video clip aired on social media, Islam can be heard claiming that Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of the “government conspiracy”.
He said, “Six years ago, when the RDX explosion occurred in Pulwama and 42 soldiers were martyred, I said that the Pulwama blast took place under the central government conspiracy and it was a conspiracy to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.”
He said that what happened in Pahalgam is that the BJP is promoting that the terrorists asked about religion and opened fire on Hindus and left Muslims.
He said, “But the victims said that the terrorists opened fire without asking someone’s name and I suspect that the Pulwama attack in which RDX was used was connivance.”
He said that the same connivance is behind the incident of Pahalgam.
