67.90 percent voting took place in Haryana, in which Ellenabad assembly seat of Sirsa district recorded the highest turnout of more than 80 percent. This information was received from the data released by the Election Commission on Sunday.
Voting for the 90-member state assembly was held on Saturday. In the 2019 assembly elections, there was 68.31 percent voting in the state, while in the Lok Sabha elections to be held for 10 seats in 2024, this percentage was 64.8. Poll panel data available at 11:55 pm on Saturday night showed that turnout stood at 66.96 percent.
Officials had said that it will increase after all the information comes. There are more than 2.03 crore eligible voters in the state. Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Aggarwal said on Sunday that the highest voting percentage among the districts was 75.36 percent in Sirsa and the lowest was 56.49 percent in Faridabad district. BJP, Congress, INLD-BSP and JJP-Azad Samaj Party alliance and Aam Aadmi Party were the main electoral rivals. However, a direct contest was expected between the ruling BJP and Congress on most of the seats.
Among the districts, voting was 74.20 percent in Yamunanagar, 73.89 percent in Palwal, 72.81 percent in Nuh and 74.77 percent in Fatehabad. However, Faridabad and Gurugram, the two major districts of the National Capital Region, recorded 56.49 percent and 57.96 percent voting respectively. Among the assembly constituencies, 80.61 percent voting took place in Ellenabad. INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala is contesting again from this seat. The lowest voting percentage was 48.27 percent in Badkhal assembly seat of Faridabad.
Other assembly seats include Gurgaon (51.81), Badshahpur (54.26), Faridabad (53.74), Ballabhgarh (53.27), Karnal (56.37), Rohtak (59.96), Sonipat (57.67), Panchkula (59.37) and Tigaon (54.34). . However, apart from Ellenabad, high turnout was also recorded in other assembly constituencies, including Ladwa (74.96), Adampur (75.47), Barwala (73.56), Dabwali (77.92), Julana (74.66), Kaithal (75.04), Kalayat (74.34 ), Loharu (79.66), Narnaund (76.30), Rania (75.91) and Uchana Kalan (75.44).
Among these seats, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini is contesting from Ladwa in Kurukshetra, while outgoing Assembly Speaker and BJP leader Gyan Chand Gupta is contesting again from Panchkula. Besides, senior BJP leader Kuldeep Bishnoi’s son and BJP leader Bhavya is contesting re-election from Adampur seat in Hisar district. Wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat is contesting from Julana in Jind district, while senior BJP leader Captain Abhimanyu is contesting from Narnaund in Hisar, JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is re-contesting from Uchana Kalan in Jind and former BJP leader Ranjit Singh Chautala is contesting as an independent candidate from Rania seat. A total of 1,031 candidates are in the fray, including 101 women and 464 independent candidates. Counting of votes will take place on October 8.
