Doctors and laborers are also included among the dead. 2 gunmen opened fire on workers working at a construction site. The terrorist organization The Resistance Front (TRF), a branch of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorist attack took place in the city, which is the native assembly seat of state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Inspector General of Police VK Birdi has confirmed the terrorist attack. Omar Abdullah’s grandfather Sheikh Abdullah and then his father Farooq Abdullah have won elections from this assembly seat and have been MLAs.
A Kashmiri doctor is also among the dead
Those killed in the terrorist attack include Kashmiri doctors, laborers and employees engaged in the construction of the tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh national highway. The deceased are residents of three states. The deceased have been identified as Bihar resident Safety Manager Fahiman Naseen, Bihar resident Tahir and Sons Company employees Mohammad Hanif and Kaleem, Madhya Pradesh resident Mechanical Engineer Anif Shukla, Kashmir residents Dr. Shahnawaz and Gurmeet Singh. This terrorist attack was the deadliest attack in Jammu and Kashmir after the Reasi terror attack on June 9, 2024. At that time terrorists had opened fire on a bus of Vaishno Devi devotees, killing 9 pilgrims and the attack was condemned across the country.
Indications of strict action from Home Minister Amit Shah
Inspector General of Police VK Birdi said that those injured in the firing by terrorists were taken to the hospital, but they died. The attack took place in a densely forested area, but security forces immediately reached the spot and cordoned off the area. He wrote on Twitter that the brutal terrorist attack on civilians in Gangangir, Jammu and Kashmir is a cowardly and despicable act.
