New Delhi, 24 February (IANS). India has gained 88 percent self-sufficiency in ammunition production. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave this information on Monday. He appreciated the current cooperation with the DRDO of IIT Mandi. Also, IIT called for more contribution to areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) run war, indigenous AI chip development, cyber security and quantum technology.
Rajnath Singh said that India’s telecom region is now the second largest region in the world. With the success of initiatives like UPI, India is setting a global standard in digital transactions. We are on the verge of a unique digital revolution.
Addressing the 16th Foundation Day of IIT Mandi, he said that India’s technical sector is expanding and is expected to reach $ 300-350 billion in the next five years. Our country and world with more than 1.25 lakh startups and 110 unicorn (one billion dollars i.e. 8,200 crore valuations) are emerging as the third largest startup system in the country and the world.
In the context of national security, Rajnath Singh urged IIT Mandi to play a more important role in defense technologies. The Defense Minister also highlighted India’s progress in self -sufficiency in the defense sector.
He said, “India has gained 88 percent self-sufficiency in ammunition production and in 2023-24 defense exports have reached around Rs 23,000 crore. The target is to bring it to Rs 50,000 crore by 2029. He called upon the students of IIT to focus on technical solutions and called for contribution that can increase defense capabilities.
The Defense Minister urged the students to excel in technological innovation to develop the country by 2047. He advised to follow the principles of initiative, reform and change (IIT).
He said, “Today the biggest challenge is to raise pace with rapid changing technology, but it is also a challenge to create new technologies. The Defense Minister also stated that this is the time of ‘Indian dream’ – a time when aspirations and achievements can redefine the global landscape.
He inspired the students to set ambitious goals and keep a high goal in their careers, as their work will have a permanent impact on India’s progress in this scenario. He expressed confidence that with its strong foundation in education, research and innovation, this institute will continue to contribute significantly to India’s development and global technological progress.
The Defense Minister inaugurated two new buildings guidance and counseling center and Sustainable Education Center during the program. Both these buildings have been designed to enhance the educational environment and contribute to the personal and commercial development of students and teachers.
