The Kothi portion of the old Ganga bridge connecting Kanpur to Unnao via Shuklaganj collapsed on Tuesday morning. In view of the dilapidated condition of the sail, traffic was banned about two years ago. There was talk of preserving the school. But no decision has been taken yet on whether it will be demolished or preserved. This bridge of the British period has been very famous. It had a path for pedestrians to walk below while cars could move above. Many films have been shot on this bridge. Ganga Maiya flows below Kanpur Kankaiya, it is said that this famous line used to cross this bridge.

Let us tell you that the traffic bridge built in 1875 during the British rule was declared dilapidated and closed for traffic on 5 April 2021 at 12:06 pm after running for 146 years. Mukesh Chandra Sharma, the then Executive Engineer of Public Works Department, Kanpur, reported to the then DM Kanpur Alok Tiwari that the old Ganga bridge of Shuklaganj is no longer suitable for traffic. On which the DM got it closed. At that time it was two storeyed. Pedestrians and cyclists were walking below, while cars were driving above. Many films have been shot on this bridge. Kanpur Kankaiya, Bahati Ganga Maiya, this famous saying was said about this moment.
