‘Aatishi’s family fought to save Afzal Guru’, Swati Maliwal on Delhi’s future CM

Launching a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister-elect Atishi, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal alleged that the Delhi minister’s parents had written a mercy petition to commute the death sentence of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Calling Atishi a “dummy CM”, the AAP leader said, “God protect Delhi.”

He also shared an alleged letter, which he claims is a mercy petition written by Atishi’s parents.

Maliwal said in a post on Instagram, “Today is a very sad day for Delhi. Today a woman is being made the Chief Minister of Delhi, whose family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from hanging. His parents had written a mercy petition to the Honorable President to save terrorist Afzal Guru. According to them, Afzal Guru was innocent and was framed under a political conspiracy.”

He wrote in the post, “Although Atishi Marlena is just a ‘dummy CM’, still this issue is related to the security of the country. May God protect Delhi!”

Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed Atishi’s name as his successor in a meeting of party MLAs. According to sources, after this she was elected the leader of the Delhi AAP Legislative Party.

Sources said that while addressing the legislature party meeting at his residence in the national capital, Kejriwal put forward this proposal and the MLAs supported it.

Kejriwal is likely to submit his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 pm today, after which Atishi is likely to take oath.

It is worth noting that Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal had accused Kejriwal’s former aide Bibhav Kumar of attacking the CM residence. Bibhav was arrested by Delhi Police, but recently he has come out on bail.

Ever since this matter has come to light, there has been a confrontation between Maliwal and AAP. Maliwal has made serious allegations against the party. Neither has she left the party nor has AAP expelled her from the party.
