Vishwa News Desk !!! Monkeypox (Ampox) is becoming a threat to the whole world. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a global pandemic on August 14. Its patients have been found in many countries including India and many people have also lost their lives. 2 cases of this disease have been found in India. The second case was found in Kerala on September 17. A 38-year-old man who returned from the United Arab Emirates was isolated after showing symptoms of monkeypox.
State Health Minister Veena George confirmed this and said the patient was examined at the Manjeri Medical College in northern Malappuram district, but did not reveal the type of monkeypox. Earlier, the first case of monkeypox was reported on September 9. A man from Haryana’s Hisar district, who returned to Delhi from abroad, was quarantined at LNJP hospital on September 8. The sample tested positive for the West African clade 2 variant of monkeypox. This strain is not the clade 1 strain included in the WHO’s Global Health Emergency, but as the pandemic spreads, do Indians need to fear it?
There should be fear because this disease has spread in India before also
When the first case of monkeypox was reported, the Union Health Ministry had issued an advisory on September 9. In such a situation, Indians should be afraid of this epidemic, because like corona, it also spreads through travel. Secondly, WHO has declared it a global pandemic, so it cannot be ignored. Since 2022, 30 cases of monkeypox have been reported in India. The first case was reported in Delhi and the patient was from Nigeria. In the year 2022, monkeypox had spread to 116 countries all over the world. 99176 patients were found. 208 had died. In 2024, so far 15600 patients have been diagnosed and 537 have died. There are 32 laboratories in India to test monkeypox samples.
Monkeypox hotspot countries
According to media reports, the hotspot country of monkeypox is Congo. This virus spread across the world from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
How beneficial is monkeypox vaccination?
The first case of monkeypox was detected in Denmark in 1958. The first case in humans was detected in 1970. Now its clade-1B strain has spread, which is more dangerous than clade 2. The first strain causes physical contact. The second strain spreads through travel. Its vaccine has been developed, but so far it has reached only Nigeria, until it reaches other countries, this disease can prove to be dangerous. Although vaccination is effective, efforts are still on to eradicate it.
