India’s Home Minister Amit Shah described the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 passed from both houses of Parliament as historic. He said on Friday that the passage of this bill is the end of the era of corruption.
Amit Shah said in the post on X, “Today is a historic day when Parliament has approved the ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025’ and ended the era of injustice and corruption that has been going on for years and started the era of justice and equality.”
He further wrote, “Through this bill, Waqf Board and Waqf properties are going to be more accountable, transparent and equitable. This will surely benefit the poor, women and children of the Muslim community.”
The Home Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked all the supporting parties.
He wrote, “I congratulate Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Minority Affairs Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju ji for this important bill that gives justice to crores. Also, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the parties and MPs supporting it.”
Explain that the Parliament passed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 after the marathon and hot debate on Friday morning. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “Yes in 128 and no 95, zero in absence. The bill has been passed.”
The House remained sitting even after midnight to pass the bill.
Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition parties of misleading people on the Waqf Amendment Bill and said that this would benefit crores of people of the Muslim community.
Responding to the debate on the bill on the bill in the Rajya Sabha, Riziju said that several suggestions made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee have been included in the revised bill.
Rijiju said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will be renamed as expectation (integrated Waqf Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development) Bill. The Lok Sabha on Wednesday started a discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and passed it in the midnight after a long debate.
The government introduced the amended bill after including the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, investigating the law introduced in August last year. The Bill aims to amend the 1995 Act and improve the administration and management of Waqf properties in India.
The Bill aims to remove the shortcomings of the previous Act, increase the efficiency of Waqf boards, improve the registration process and increase the role of technology in the management of Waqf records.
