After the completion of the project to deliver trains to Kashmir, preparations have now started to connect Udhampur district of Jammu division by air. If everything happens according to the plan, then soon the first commercial flight may land on the runway of Udhampur Air Force Station. Minister of State and local MP Dr. Jitendra Singh at the Prime Minister’s Office has proposed to extend the flight of Air India Express to Udhampur from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad to Jammu from 23 March. The director of Jammu Airport has also sent this proposal to Air India Express.

If flights to Udhampur begin, it will be very beneficial for the promotion of tourism in Jammu division as well as devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi. Let us tell you that flights will be operated every day except on Saturday from Hindon Airport to Jammu. Dr. Jitendra Singh wrote on his X handle, ‘We have made an ambitious proposal to include Udhampur as a stopover for the new Air India Express flight between Hindon-Jammu-Hindi. Although it includes several issues and still approval is yet to be received as Udhampur is also an Air Force -run airport like Jammu, but we have proposed to allow commercial flights to land in Udhampur. If not every day, then at least a few days a week. We hope our efforts will be successful.
Army and Air Force will also benefit.
Dr. After Jitendra Singh, Jammu Airport Director Sanjeev Kumar Garg has also written a letter to the station manager of Air India Express, demanding to extend the Hindon-Jammu flight to Udhampur. Apart from the Army, the Air Force also has an important airbase in Udhampur. They will also benefit from the start of this flight. Garg says that if he gets a positive answer from Air India Express, he will start further process. After this, we have to talk to the Air Force and also convince them. After getting permission from the Air Force, the building for the airport will have to be constructed there. It is expected that we will be able to provide air service to the people of Udhampur soon.
It will take less time to reach Mata Vaishno Devi.
The start of air service for Udhampur will also benefit the devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi. The distance from Jammu to Katra is 65 kilometers. It takes about one and a half hours to complete this journey. The distance from Udhampur to Katra is 39 kilometers, which can be covered in fifty minutes. Apart from Udhampur, there are temples of Sudhamdev, Pancharei, Krimchi as well as Padhanitop, Sansar, Bhadrawah temples. With the introduction of flights to Udhampur, the number of tourists in these areas will increase and this will also provide employment to the local people. People of Udhampur can also get direct air connectivity from Delhi and other major cities.
