Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Air India aircraft accident site in Ahmedabad on Friday and reviewed the ground situation. The incident occurred a day after the AL-171 aircraft crashed at London Gatwick soon after flying from Ahmedabad International Airport.
The Prime Minister reached the city this morning and reached the place where the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed. The officials informed them about the situation.
Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi and other officials were also present during the visit. After this, Prime Minister Modi reached Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to meet those injured in the accident.
On reaching the city today, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Ministers Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjrapu and CR Patil.
The crashed aircraft rode 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens and a Canadian citizen. Airline officials said that a miraculously survived an accident, a British citizen of Indian origin.
The aircraft was conducted by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who is a line training captain and who has an 8,200 -hour flight experience. He was assisted by First Officer Clive Kunder, who has an experience of 1,100 hours of flight.
According to the Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft flew from Ahmedabad to 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a medium call to the ATC, but after that the aircraft did not respond to the call made by the ATC.
Soon after flying from runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the circumference of the airport. An official said that heavy black smoke was coming out of the accident site.
Yesterday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and took detailed information about the entire incident.
Shah said that there was no possibility of rescuing anyone in the Air India aircraft accident going to London, as excessive temperatures had arisen due to burning of about 125,000 liters of fuel in the aircraft.
Expressing condolences to the families of those killed, Shah said that the correct number of the dead will be officially stated only after DNA testing. Shah said that about 1000 DNA testing has been done so far.
The Home Minister told reporters, “The aircraft had about 125,000 liters of fuel and there was no possibility to save anyone due to high temperatures. I visited the accident site.”
He said, “We got information within just 10 minutes of the incident. After this I informed the Prime Minister, the Home Minister of Gujarat, the Control Room of the Home Department, the Civil Aviation Department and the Minister of Civil Aviation.” “The Prime Minister immediately called and the employees of the Central and State Government joined the relief and rescue operations,” he said.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday confirmed that a formal inquiry has been launched by the Air India flight number 171’s deadly accident by the Bureau of Investigation Bureau (AAIB), killing 241 people.
