Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday posted a video on social media X and took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party government. He wrote, by breaking the symbols of Kashi in the name of development, does the BJP government want to destroy the heritage of Varanasi itself. Now the Gandhi Chabutra and Bharat Mata Mandir built 55 years ago in 1968 in Rohania have been demolished in the name of widening. If ‘Kyoto’ is to be built by destroying the heritage of history, then a public referendum should be conducted among the tradition loving residents of Kashi.

The temple was built 55 years ago
Let us tell you that Bharat Mata Mandir, also known as Gandhi Chabutra, was built in 1968. This 55-year-old temple, which was an obstacle in the road widening, has been demolished by the PWD department with a bulldozer. The traders had also expressed their anger over this. They said that it was built after fighting with the PWD department and today I am seeing it being demolished in front of my eyes. At the same time, the PWD department says that after the road widening, a Gandhi memorial will be established at the Gangapur Marg and Parmanandpur Marg trisection.
