Union Minister of State for Coal and Mining Satish Chandra Dubey has launched a scathing attack on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his comments on Brahmins. The minister wrote on X – “What does this low @anuragkashyap72 understand, will survive the entire Brahmin society by spewing poison? If he did not immediately ask for public apology, I promise that I will not let it live in peace. Now this gutter mouth will not be tolerated, we will not sit silent.”
As the controversy escalated, Anurag Kashyap has apologized for Brahmin comments. He said that his daughter, family, friends and colleagues are facing threats to rape and kill. Kashyap shared a note on Instagram and wrote – “This is my apology, not for his post but for the one line which was used to incite hatred by reference. Any thing or action is not so necessary that your daughter, family and friends get such threats, they are also from the contractors of ‘rites’.”
On April 17, Anurag Kashyap questioned the protest against the film ‘Phule’ and asked why films made on caste -based issues are banned in India?
‘Phule’ is a biopic based on the life of social reformers Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule. The film stars Prateek Gandhi and Patralekha in the lead roles. Earlier it was to be released last week, now it will come to theaters on 25 April.
After the trailer was released on 10 April, some Brahmin organizations objected that the film had incorrectly shown the Brahmins. In one post after another on Instagram, Anurag Kashyap said that the first drama of his career was based on the life of the Phule couple. He wrote – “If casteism was not in the country, then why would the Phule couple need to fight him?”
